Stroop Effect Generator

The Stroop Effect and Word Test (SCWT) is a test used to measure the cognitive interference that occurs when a specific stimulus interferes with the processing of another stimulus.

Instructions

For each word in the chart below, say aloud the visual color (not the color spelled by the text.) Examples:

RED = blue

BLUE = red

YELLOW = green

Tips

The top two rows have words that match their colors but the rest have colors other than the those they spell. By forcing the brain to focus on two separate tasks (reading and observing) one can experience the Stroop Effect directly. Click the refresh button to generate a new layout.
